The goal of the Clean & Jerk is to be able to lift the barbell from ground to overhead in TWO motions
During the CLEAN, the lifter moves the barbell from the floor to a racked position across the shoulders. In the JERK, the lifter raises the barbell to a stationary position above the head, finishing with straight arms and legs, and the feet in the same plane as the torso and barbell.
Quite simply, Olympic weightlifting can completely change one’s holistic levels of strength and fitness. Developing on the more basic gym lifts – such as the squat, deadlift and shoulder press – Olympic weightlifting has no equal for developing speed, flexibility and coordinated, total-body strength and muscle. Both lifts demand coordination, flexibility and complete concentration. The technical aspects of the sport go a lot further in developing mental and motor skills than regular free-weight lifting. If combined with plenty of whole food nutrition and sound recovery you can build amazing fitness conditioning, superior cardiovascular conditioning and skills and physique to back it up. Offering on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month, our hour long Olympic Lifting class is primarily a skill-based class to work on perfecting the main Weightlifting movements: Snatch and Clean & Jerk. The class consists of a warmup, drill/technique/heavy lifting, and accessory work. This class is open to all athletes of all ages and skill levels!
